Bifröst (Bilröst) is a bridge built by the Aesir that connects the mortal world of Midgard with the world of the gods, Asgard; the Aesir pass over it daily to their meetings in the shade of the ash tree Yggdrasill. Mortals see the bridge as a rainbow; Heimdall guards it. The red color in the rainbow is a flame of fire that protects the bridge from the giants. The bridge will be destroyed in the final battle during Ragnarök.
